Krk's technical knowledge of Final Cut Pro and the post production process, combined with his easy attitude, is the reason I asked him to co-instruct with me at University of Washington’s Independent Filmmaking Extension program: Editing Documentary Film. Beyond having expert knowledge of FCP, Krk has a knack for finding and establishing the simplest way to organize, then execute a project. Krk teaches this in class because it is an essential skill that can save time and money in the real world of commercial, corporate, and independent filmmaking. In order for a project to meet its creative goals, it must be organized in a way that will maximize an editor's efficiency without getting in the way of creativity. By organizing the project up front, Krk can save a producer money that could better be spent elsewhere on motion graphics, animation, or color grading, than on basic housekeeping tasks at online rates. While working on the color grading of my film, "My Effortless Brilliance", I had decided to go with Apple Color to do the finishing. It was uncharted territory for me and the post production house. Krk was able to optimize my project file in such a way that it was easy to troubleshoot the bugs and problems that arose from taking this bleeding edge approach to color grading. I was able to get my master tapes made and spend the time I needed in color grading to create the final film that I wanted. Thanks, Krk! Lynn Shelton, writer and director of We Go Way Back and My Effortless Brilliance Kirk has been both a life-saver and money-saver for my projects. He is my 'Google' of post-production knowledge. With the vast variety of formats, work flows, and end usages that we as filmmakers must integrate into our work, it's great to know that Kirk has my back.
